Striking Art: Lasting Impressions
Wojciech Pietranik's exhibition at Royal Australian Mint

Over the past 20 years Wojciech Pietranik has created a collection of striking art leaving a lasting impression in the history of coin design in Australia. This exhibition celebrates Wojciech and the art of coin and medal design and will showcase a number of coins, medals and sculptures from his collection.

Wojciech Pietranik. Winner of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Victory Medal Competition. Wojciech Pietranik was born in 1950 in the city of Gdansk, Poland. Wojciech studied sculpture in Gdansk, Poland. He immigrated to Australia in 1985. Since 1989, he has been employed at the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra as a Designer and Sculptor. He practices sculpture in stone as well as creates small medallic pieces. He was the recipient of the Churchill Fellowship Award in 1992, travelling to Rome to perfect his sculpture techniques. In 1999, Pietranik’s design was chosen as the winning medal design to be represented at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to view Wojciech's collection on display for the very first time. Exclusive only to the Royal Australian Mint. Special event: On Saturday 30 January at 11 am Wojciech Pietranik will give a talk about the art of coin and medal design. This will be a rare chance to hear Wojciech speak about what inspires him and a great opportunity to ask him about his career in designing.
