| Na stronie internetowej dziennika The Australian ukazał się artykuł (recenzja filmu) autorstwa Stephena Romei zatytułowany “This film will hold you in a morbid spell” zawierający frazę “the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland”.

Wyrażenie to, niezależnie od kontekstu i rodzaju artykułu w jakim się ukazuje, jest fałszywe i naruszające dobre imię Polski i Polaków, gdyż u wielu osób, szczególnie nie znających historii II wojny światowej, może tworzyć przeświadczenie, że niemiecki nazistowski obóz koncentracyjny Auschwitz-Birkenau był „polskim obozem”, stworzonym przez Polaków, Państwo Polskie. Jest to sformułowanie błędne i obraźliwe oraz, zgodnie z przyjętymi międzynarodowymi definicjami, zniekształcające prawdę historyczną o Holokauście (Holocaust Distortion).
Ambasada RP w Canberra wysłała do redakcji The Australian list protestacyjny w tej sprawie. List protestacyjny został również wysłany przez Radę Naczelną Polonii Australijskiej.
Ambasada dodatkowo złożyła skargę do Australian Press Council w sprawie nieprzestrzegania przez gazetę The Australian wytycznych APC dotyczących opisywania niemieckich nazistowskich obozów koncentracyjnych. Skarga jest w trakcie rozpatrywania, o rezultatach na pewno będziemy informować.
W pełni popieramy protest i uważamy, że Polonia powinna być świadoma jakie regulacje prawne i międzynarodowe uzasadniają protesty w tej i w podobnych sytuacjach i dlatego je przytaczamy poniżej.
Although located in what is now Poland’s territory, Auschwitz was a German Nazi concentration camp established and run by Nazi Germans, who at that time occupied Poland.
Therefore, this expression is:
1) misleading to Australian public, especially to those who might not be familiar with the history of World War II
2) very offensive to the feelings of the Polish community in Australia, as it may suggest Polish complicity in the atrocities committed by the Nazi Germans. Note that many member of the Polish community in Australia are descendants of victims of the genocide perpetrated by Nazi Germany.
3) constitutes an act of Holocaust distortion, as it blurs the responsibility of Germany for the establishment and operation of Auschwitz concentration camp by putting blame on Poland
Both The Australian Press Council guideline and the official UNESCO definition of Auschwitz-Birkenau unequivocally indicate the need to avoid potentially offensive terminology and use a more accurate and appropriate description of “German Nazi concentration camps”, adding their location as being “in occupied Poland” where necessary.

Furthermore, according to the working definition of Holocaust denial and distortion “Distortion of the Holocaust refers, inter alia, to: attempts to blur the responsibility for the establishment of concentration and death camps devised and operated by Nazi Germany by putting blame on other nations or ethnic groups”. Not using an accurate and appropriate description of “Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi Concentration” (or Auschwitz German Nazi concentration camp) while giving its location as merely “in Poland” without any historical context, is nothing else but an attempt to blur the responsibility of Germany for the Auschwitz concentration camp by putting blame on Poland, in other words it is an act of Holocaust distortion.
