This young Australian ensemble made its first appearance at the Festival in 2008 as participants in the AYO Chamber Players program, and has since travelled an exciting path. At the 2011 Festival, the Takács Quartet invited the Oravas to study with them in Colorado. They seized the opportunity and have since gone on to further success in competitions and acclaimed performances across the USA, Asia and Australasia, winning praise for their signature rich, dark-toned colours and absorbing musical fervour. Now based in Brisbane, the Quartet has been entrusted with the Sydney premiere of Ross Edwards’ String Quartet no 3, and a challenging and beautiful selection of chamber works with Karin Schaupp and Narek Arutyunian.
