More than 1000 distinguish guests including Federal Communications - Minister Malcolm Turnbull and other Federal & States Ministers, parliamentarians, senators, renowned politicians, business leaders, ambassadors and consuls-general, as well as other dignitaries and community leaders of NSW attended this year's Premier's Harmony Dinner hosted by the Minister for Citizenship and Communities - Victor Dominello.

This significant event was attended by the Consul General of Poland - Mrs Regina Jurkowska, Polish community leaders, as well as over 30 teachers and school committee members form the following Polish community language schools - North Shore, Liverpool, Ashfield, Wollongong and Randwick. They were part of the biggest group /organisation in attendance - NSW Federation of Community Language School with 255 people from 41 language groups representing 62 organisations or schools.

The Federation's choir opened the evening with beautiful singing. There were 12 students from different communities partaking in the choir - one of them being Polish - Maya Stempien from The Polish School of Sydney in Randwick. It was a very beautiful sight and the attendees really appreciated the children.

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell and Prime Minister Tony Abbot spoke by videoconference from China. They both acknowledged Australia as a successfully multicultural nation.

This significant event honored the NSW Government's commitment to a cohesive and inclusive society in which cultures, languages and religions of all citizens are accepted and appreciated. It celebrated cultural diversity with an array of cultural performances, presentations to significant members of the multicultural community. Six citizens have been honoured with Premier’s Medals for their exemplary service to multicultural communities in New South Wales.

Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello described the recipients as “champions of multiculturalism”. “NSW is truly one of the most multicultural societies in the world, with 200 different languages spoken at home and over a quarter of our citizens born overseas. “Ultimately what unites our culturally diverse communities is a sense of mutual respect and belonging through our shared Australian identity,” Mr Dominello said.
